Webster’s Dictionary says that “health is freedom from defect, pain or disease”. It is defined as what it isn’t rather than what it is.
Homeopaths see health as a state of well-being - a positive thing, not just the absence of something.
Health is “freedom on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level, where the entire body operates in an integrated and harmonious way allowing our body to respond appropriately, not only to the environment but to anything that comes into our lives.”
What is Dis-ease?
Dis-ease may be defined as a condition of the living animal or plant body, or one of its parts, that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms.
The homeopath sees symptoms as a way of bringing attention to our dis-ease - nature’s way of warning of trouble within. For instance, food poisoning will result in vomiting and diarrhoea which rids the body of the toxins as quickly as possible. But these are symptoms and not the dis-ease. The dis-ease is the bacterial occurrence in the gut and the symptoms are merely trying to find the balance. We therefore look to where the disturbance originates and treat from there, thereby alleviating the symptoms and getting to the cause of the problem.
